EARTH DAY II- THE RACE IS ON-2025

I went from not wanting to do an Earth Day Post this year to doing for the first time 2.... life is funny that way. But when you get inspired you have to share it, so this will be short and to the point. As we have discussions of how we survive as a species, we are faced with 2 ugly heads .... overpopulation-(8.1 billion humans currently on the planet, which equals @215,000 extra people per day or if you want it in nutshell 1 million net gain in humans every 5 days) vs living Sustainability as a species.  Which one will take us down... or the combination of both. So I am here to say we can fix this with the new technology being discovered everyday.

Why do I feel this way, I just watched an amazing show called "Down to Earth", most of this season is in Australia, and stars Zac Efron and Darin Olien. It is was on Netflix- Season 2 episode 8, called "Eco Innovators"-that I was inspired--you have to see this. It will give you hope and inspiration of the solutions to many of our current problems facing the Earth.

Red Algae grows in salt
water.

1. There is a Red Algae called: Asparagopsis taxiformis, which when added to a cows diet can change the output of methane by cows by up to 80% ( remember Methane, CH4, is 25x worst than CO2 in trapping heat which causes the greenhouse effect and 25 % of the methane produced is from cows which mostly comes from their burps!) Of course there are always side-effects which needs to be studied, like the bromoform and iodine and its toxicity to the milk and the cow's meat. Although nothing is verifiable for human toxicity at this point.

2. Regenerative Farming: Soil is like a major reservoir of carbon, holding up to 3x as much as the atmosphere. By using seeds combined with certain Fungi, carbon can be stored in the soil at a higher percentage. In an article from the Nature Journal(Jan. 8th 2014), symbiotic fungi can hold 70% more carbon in the soil. According to the Down to the Earth show, many farms are practicing this regenerative method of farming to increase crop yield and as by-product more carbon is stored in the soil, farms use no pesticides!

3. Great Wrap Company: Just think no more plastic wrapping for food containers, etc.. Where does plastic food wrapping etc. come from now... oil-petroleum, with a 1,000 year breakdown period. This innovative company has figured out a way to take potato byproducts and other vegetable byproducts and make a pellet polymer which will be non polluting and break down in a couple of weeks. Think of all the plastic we have in landfills and floating in the ocean. It is a miracle breakthrough and they have major corporations already knocking at their door. 1 min. Great Wrap video

I could go on, but let's say that's a wrap, for now... please check out the show you will be inspired too, and as Zac would say, "along the way or maybe you already have, find your connection with nature, and maybe we leave the planet better than the way we found it."  cheers jerry
